Michael Standing was born on 27th March 1948.
He had a sister and two brothers.
He married Phyllis Jones and had three children, James, Matthew and Francine.
He LOVED sports, any kind, if it was on T.V he would watch it, to be honest he'd watch anything on T.V.
He worked hard for his family.
When he was told he had cancer, i'm sure he was scared, but he hid it well. I never realised that he was as bad as he was until his final months when he couldn't carry on the pretense and I finally understood that the end was near.
My Dad held on to his life just long enough to meet his first grandchild, a beautiful baby girl named Charlotte.
I'm glad that they got to meet each other.
Rest in peace Dad. I miss you every day. We all do.
What I'll remember most about uncle Mike was his daft sense of humour, rapier wit and his complete lack of pretension - what you saw was what you got - an honest, hard working, highly intellegent man with a magpie like desire to gather knowledge.
My mother would tell me "You're just like Mike" when I would refuse to back down in an argument when I knew I was right.
I liked that.
I miss him.
The pain in my heart now you are gone
consumes my every breath.
The pain you felt before you were gone
has passed away with your death.
Feeling sad and heartbroken too
not believing that this is the end,
just makes me realise how much I love you,
My hero, my Dad, my friend.
You didn't believe in life after death,
but I'm sure that now you'll see,
the happiness that you brought to life
will be reflected inside of me.
So although you are not with us here,
this can never be the end,
for you are in everyones hearts
